About the event

Abstract: We are interconnected and interdependent. The COVID experience that we alls hared leads us to understand the importance of offering services without borders. This presentation will focus on connectivity, collaboration and communication, amongst speech, language, and hearing professionals across the Asia-Pacific Region. 

Learning Outcomes: The participants will learn

  • the concepts of dialogue and transcultural communication
  • strategies to work across borders
  • challenges in and opportunities for collaboration, communication and connection

About the Speaker:

  • Li-Rong Lily Cheng PhD., CCC-SLP is the Director of the Chinese Cultural Center and a Professor in the School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at San Diego State University.
  • She is a past chair of ASHA Multicultural Issues Board, past president of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP), and has served as a member of the editorial board of several major professional journals.
  • She holds professorship in multiple universities in China. Her honors and awrds included ASHA Fellow, ASHA Multicultural Affairs in 1997 and Diversity Award from the California Speech & Hearing Association in 2022, best research article award from the Council of Exceptional Children, the Humanitarian Asian Heritage Foundation award in 2010, Monty's Award from SDSU in 2012, Diversity Award from CAPCSD in 2013.
